American actor Jussie Smollett Angry Was Attacked That Some Doubt He.
Actor Jussie Smollett said he was angry that he was attacked outside his Chicago apartment in January by some people who doubted his statement.
The comments were made in a Thursday interview with ABC News on “Good Morning America” by Smollett, 36, an openly gay African – American who plays a gay character on the “Empire” hip – hop drama.
“I’m pissed off,” Smollett said to ABC News ‘ Robin Roberts. “It’s the attackers, but it’s the attacks as well.”
Smollett told Chicago police that two men who shouted racist and homophobic slurs at him and put a rope around his neck were attacking him on Jan. 29.
The news on social media sparked outrage, but some questioned the account of Smollett. Police in Chicago did not find any video surveillance evidence and did not make any arrests.
“At first it was like’ Look, if I tell the truth, then that’s it because it’s the truth,'” he said. “Then it became’ like, oh, how do you doubt it? Like, how don’t you think so? It’s the truth.”
Chicago police said the incident was being investigated as a possible hate crime.
